The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association, based in Leicester, is led by Chief Instructor Gursharan Sahota. Offering classes in Oadby and Enderby, TISKA welcomes individuals of all skill levels and ages.
Gursharan's journey in karate began at age 14 at a local Bedford club. Four years later, he earned his black belt 1st dan (shodan). Competing in kata and kumite events at national and international levels, his most significant achievement was training in Japan in 1984 under Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa.
This experience led him to establish TISKA in 1993. Under his leadership, TISKA has grown into one of the largest karate associations in the UK, based in Luton/Dunstable, with clubs nationwide. Gursharan actively teaches over 35 classes per week in the UK and hosts international master classes, sharing his expertise globally.
TISKA focuses on teaching Shotokan Karate, emphasising discipline, technique, and self-defence. The school's comprehensive syllabus supports students in reaching their black belt and beyond, providing a nurturing environment for learning karate.
In addition to training, Gursharan is involved in charitable work, subsidising medical trips for surgeons to operate on underprivileged children in third world countries and supporting initiatives in India, including the construction of a new school.
