London Seaward FC is an independent women's football club located in the vibrant area of Ilford, East London. Competing in the highly esteemed FA Women's National League, we proudly stand as one of the highest ranked women's football clubs in London. We firmly believe in promoting equality of access to football, regardless of background or income, and strive to prove that women's clubs can thrive on their own merits, without being viewed as a subsidiary of a men's team.
We are thrilled to announce that we have moved to our new home, Oakside Stadium in Barkingside, which marks an exciting new chapter for our club. To celebrate this milestone, this season's tickets will pay homage to the groundbreaking Ford Machinists Strike of 1968. This strike played a pivotal role in advancing women's rights in the UK and led to the enactment of the Equal Pay Act 1970, ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work. As a token of our appreciation, season ticket holders will receive a complimentary copy of Carrie Dunn's remarkable publication, “Suitable for Females” (some exceptions may apply).
At London Seaward FC, we fully endorse the findings and recommendations put forth in Karen Carney's insightful review of women's football, titled “Raising the Bar”. However, we believe that more needs to be done to ensure the prosperity of women's football. Independent and lesser affiliated clubs play a vital role in the game's vibrancy and success, and their significance should not be overlooked. Additionally, we urge the sport to address the structural barriers that hinder girls and young women's access to football nationwide.
It is crucial to acknowledge and address the issue of larger men's clubs utilising their financial power to gain access to the league and exert control over its direction.
