Lower Cliffs

The Lower Cliffs, located in the Glass House Mountains of Australia, is a popular destination for rock climbers seeking a challenging and varied climbing experience. Specifically, the Lower Main Cliff is a long and varied wall with several excellent sport routes, including the highly regarded 'Absentia' and 'Acid'. Additionally, there are some trad routes available, although they are known to be more adventurous and require caution.

The climbs at the Lower Main Cliff are listed from left to right, and the wall offers a mix of slab and vertical routes facing south and southeast. Climbers will find a diverse range of grades, from 7 to 27. Bolt plates are recommended as there are a few carrots (BRs) scattered amongst the bolts.

Accessing the Lower Main Cliff is relatively easy, with a gentle 5-10 minute approach from the opposite area known as the Owl Pillar. The cliff is split by the 'Acid' ravine, and a rough track continues along the base of the cliff, leading climbers to the various routes. Two isolated ravines, 'Claustrophilia' and 'Watch your Back Jack,' can be found by following the trail above the 'closed cave' and walking approximately 50 metres through the bush to a large rock knob, where climbers will need to abseil in.

Climbers visiting the Lower Cliffs are expected to adhere to the ethic inherited from the Glasshouse Mountains. This includes staying on designated tracks and refraining from leaving waste at the climbing areas. Additionally, new routes should be established without interfering with the historic routes established decades ago, and retro-bolting on existing routes is not acceptable. Traditional protection should be utilised when available for new routes.
