The first recorded rowing race in Maidenhead dates back to 1831 when Eton College triumphed over Westminster School. The Maidenhead Regatta, held three weeks after the first Henley Regatta in 1839, further solidified the town's connexion to competitive rowing. Notably, the Star Club and Lady of the Lake Club from Maidenhead participated in races against the Albion Club of Henley during this inaugural regatta.
