The programme is divided into 6 progressive levels, all of which must be successfully completed to obtain the prestigious Probationary Instructor level. Throughout your journey, you'll receive guidance and training from the experienced Instructor and business mentor, Sifu Steve Carpenter, during monthly seminars at the headquarters. These seminars will cover coaching and management skills, equipping you with the necessary tools to excel as an instructor.
But it doesn't stop there! To truly develop the high level of skill required, you'll also have the opportunity for hands-on training by participating in actual classes once a week. This practical experience will ensure you become a highly skilled Meridian Kung Fu (UK) Coach.
The best part? This programme comes at no cost to you. However, please note that due to the intensive nature of the programme, only a limited number of new recruits are accepted each year. On top of that, there are strict guidelines that all recruits must adhere to throughout the 4-year duration.
To get started, there are a few initial investments you will need to make. These include purchasing coaching kit (£60), a coaching manual (£15), and undergoing a DBS check (£9).
Each level of the programme builds upon the previous one, covering various aspects of coaching and instruction. Level 1 focuses on basic class involvement duties, such as setting up equipment and preparing the training area. As you progress to Level 2, you'll dive into coaching techniques and responsibilities, including pad and drill training under careful supervision.
Level 3 will teach you class management systems, from maintaining the class register to organising students before and after training sessions, all while following the curriculum. Moving on to Level 4, you'll develop more advanced coaching skills, with a focus on coaching small groups and maximising student participation.
Level 5 takes your coaching ability to the next level, emphasising demonstration coaching, equipment set up, health and safety checks, small group curriculum training, and warm-up and cool-down exercises. Finally, at Level 6, you'll receive in-depth instruction on branch management, covering essential aspects such as economics, enrolment, marketing and recruitment, maintenance, insurance, and first aid.
Upon successfully completing Level 6, you'll be awarded Provisional Instructor status. And guess what? Meridian Kung Fu (UK) goes even further by offering a zonal opportunity for new Instructors to open their own branch on a one-year trial period. If you meet the standards outlined in the Instructors handbook, you'll be awarded full Instructor status. And if you need it, Meridian Kung Fu (UK) can even provide a full-time premises on a lease basis in any area of the UK!
