Miramar Bowling Club, dubbed "The Home of Champions," welcomes bowlers to Wellington's premier lawn bowls venue. Mark Peters, the organiser, continues the legacy that began on November 27, 1945. Back then, forty men, backed by the Wellington Bowling Centre, secured a lease from the Wellington City Council, transforming overgrown tennis courts into today’s vibrant club.
The journey wasn’t easy. From ploughing the land to managing grazing and fencing challenges, the dedication paid off when Wellington Mayor Sir W. Appleton officially opened the club on November 30, 1946.
Fast forward to the 2018-2019 season, and Miramar Bowling Club celebrated multiple triumphs. They clinched the Men's Interclub Promotion Playoffs, ascended to the Men's premier division, and took home titles in Men's Division 3 Pennants. The women’s team shone as well, winning the Women's Division 3 Pennants. Their achievements didn’t go unnoticed, earning the club the Club of the Year accolade from Bowls Wellington in 2019.
Within its walls, Miramar Bowling Club embraces all skill levels, fostering competitive and social play alike. The club’s greens, clubhouse, and function rooms are more than just facilities – they're hubs of community and camaraderie.
Events and social gatherings are regular highlights, bringing members together beyond the game. With strong support from partners and sponsors, Miramar Bowling Club continues to elevate the lawn bowls experience for everyone.
