MTG Judo Club

MTG Judo Club Corinda, located in Brisbane's western suburbs, is a vibrant and community-oriented Judo club catering to both kids and adults. The club was founded by Maurice Mirabito (6th Dan) and Jerome Wahl (2nd Dan) and has a rich history. Previously known as the Y-West club at Jamboree Heights YMCA, Sensei Maurie has been dedicating his time to teaching Judo to thousands of local children and adults for the past 33 years.

In early 2019, the club relocated to its current premises at Corinda State Primary School, and later in April 2023, it moved again to its present location at the Corinda Bowls Club on 58 Hall Street, Corinda. The new location offers a more spacious and convenient facility for members.

Judo, meaning “Gentle Way,” is a modern martial art and Olympic sport that originated in Japan in 1882. Developed by Professor Jigoro Kano, Judo is a safe sport that focuses on throwing techniques, grappling, and submissions. It emphasises using an opponent's strength and momentum to control and subdue them, rather than relying on striking or kicking.

At MTG Judo, participants can engage in Judo at various levels, depending on their abilities and goals. Members have the opportunity to train at a club level, compete in local competitions, and potentially progress to State, National, and even International level events if desired. The club welcomes people of all ages and skill levels, from very young children to veteran-level participants.

The club prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive community where everyone can enjoy participating in Judo, making new friends, and improving their fitness and self-confidence. With a supportive and welcoming environment, MTG Judo aims to create a positive and enjoyable experience for all members.

MTG Judo Club Corinda offers classes at the Corinda Bowls Club, conveniently located on 58 Hall Avenue.

For newcomers, the first few classes are free, allowing them to experience Judo firsthand and decide if it's the right fit for them. The club encourages everyone to give Judo a try and hopes that they'll quickly develop a passion for the sport, just like the rest of the members.

MTG Judo also offers a family discount, where the first family member pays full fees and each additional family member receives a 20% discount on their fees. Additionally, there are other fees that may apply, such as the cost of a Judogi (Judo uniform), grading certificates, and belts.

To join the club, all members are required to fill out an MTG Club Waiver, which can be downloaded from the club's website.
