About
Want to dive into a community that’s rich in history and passion for the underwater world? Look no further than the Nelson Underwater Club Inc. Founded in 1959 by diving legends like Eric King and Ross McDonald after a brave search and rescue mission, this is New Zealand’s second-oldest underwater club, and it’s right in Nelson.
Since affiliating with the New Zealand Underwater Association in 1960, Nelson Underwater Club Inc. has been a hub for divers eager to share their underwater adventures. Whether you’re an old hand at diving or a beginner ready to take the plunge, organiser Eric King welcomes all levels to a club where learning and camaraderie go hand-in-hand.
Monthly club meetings are a highlight, buzzing with diving stories and trip planning, though they take a breather during winter. Mark your calendar for the next meetup on 19 September 2023 at the clubrooms, 11 Hastings Street, Pioneers Park, Nelson—don’t miss it!
Want to stay in the loop? Join the club’s Facebook Group. Membership for 2023-24 is $20, with discounts for junior and social members. Non-financial members are welcome too, so come connect with folks who love the ocean as much as you do.
Safety’s top of mind here. The club’s website packs useful resources from scuba signals to dive safety tips, along with vital info on New Zealand fishing rules. It’s all about diving smart and staying safe.
From sunken wrecks to Waikoropupu Springs’ crystal waters, the adventures are endless at Nelson Underwater Club Inc. Dive into this vibrant community, where every dive is another story waiting to be told.
