About

Welcome to the website of the New England Chess Club (Peterborough), a popular chess club located in Peterborough, England. Our club aims to provide the opportunity for chess enthusiasts of all levels to participate in the sport and enjoy the game in a competitive but friendly atmosphere.

Every Wednesday from 7:30pm, we meet at the Yard of Ale pub in Peterborough to indulge in our passion for chess. Whether you are a beginner looking to improve your skills or an experienced player seeking challenging opponents, our club caters to all standards of play.

We are proud to participate in county leagues, where our teams compete against other clubs in the region. Organising internal events and championships is also a part of our club's regular activities. Additionally, we offer tuition to those who wish to enhance their game and learn from experienced players.

To stay updated with our club's activities and connect with fellow chess enthusiasts, we invite you to visit our Facebook page. Thanks to Jim Lewin, our page offers a platform for discussions, announcements, and sharing helpful resources related to the club.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences for the loss of our esteemed club member, Mahmoud Tarabad. Mahmoud was a dedicated member of our club, serving as the B team captain for five years. He was a passionate advocate for giving opportunities to lower graded players and played a significant role in the establishment of the Team 4000 novice league. Mahmoud's sense of humour and wit will always be fondly remembered by our members.

In other news, our club newsletter, expertly curated by Paul Hanks, has reached a significant milestone with its 200th edition. These newsletters serve as a valuable resource for our members and are highly regarded among the chess community. We look forward to another century of informative and engaging newsletters.

For those interested in joining our club, directions to the Yard of Ale pub are available for download on our website. Additionally, you can find the minutes of recent Annual General Meetings (AGMs) for the club and the Cambridgeshire Chess Association on our site.

To prepare for the upcoming season, the fixtures for our club and other teams can be downloaded from our website, along with the rules and regulations for various competitions. We are excited to announce that Chris Ross, our honorary club member, has successfully published his first book, titled “Blind Faith. ” This inspiring volume shares Chris's chess journey and offers insightful annotations to his games. The book is now available for pre-order, allowing us to determine the number of printed copies required.

At the New England Chess Club (Peterborough), we take great pride in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for chess enthusiasts in Peterborough and the surrounding area. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player, we invite you to join our club and experience the joy and intellectual stimulation of chess.
