He adheres to the Regional Pest Management Plan and the Hauraki Gulf Controlled Area Notice 2020 to protect the unique ecosystems. Visitors are asked to check their belongings and clean their gear to avoid spreading pests and weeds to the islands.

The boat, Riko Riko, was crafted by Joe Donaldson in 1969 in Auckland and designed by Lidguard. A Kauri boat, it's been glassed over for durability. Riko Riko has a strong commercial fishing record from Northland to the South Island and has been operating out of Bayswater for the past decade. It provides ample space and cover, along with a full 360-degree view of the surrounding waters.
