The RMIT ITF Taekwon-Do Club, located in Carlton, is a renowned martial arts school that specialises in the practise of Taekwon-Do. Taekwon-Do is a martial art form that focuses on self-defence techniques and was founded in the 1950s in Korea. It utilises both hand and foot techniques, maximising power through scientific principles.
The club offers a range of classes suitable for individuals of all fitness levels and experience. With four classes running per week across two different locations, participants can easily find a session that fits their schedule. The Melbourne CBD classes take place at the RMIT Multi-faith and Wellbeing Centre on Orr St, while the Bundoora classes are held at the RMIT Sports Centre.
Membership fees are affordable and offer the flexibility to attend classes as often as desired. The club even offers three free classes as a trial, allowing potential members to experience what they can expect. RMIT students benefit from reduced semester fees, with rates of $180 for city campus and $105 for Bundoora. Non-RMIT students can also join for $270 at the city campus or $160 in Bundoora.
The RMIT ITF Taekwon-Do Club prides itself on being more than just a martial arts club. Notable figures include Grandmaster Robert Lai, a 9th-degree black belt who began teaching in Malaysia and now serves as the President of CHITF Australia. Senior Master Jason Lai, an 8th-degree black belt, has over 30 years of experience and has been honoured for his outstanding service to the club. Mr.
Marc Chung, a 5th-degree black belt, leads the instruction in RMIT Bundoora, while Ms. Mi Tran, a 3rd-degree black belt, and Ms. Shivarnee Sitsabasan, also a 3rd-degree black belt, bring their expertise and passion to the training sessions.
The RMIT ITF Taekwon-Do Club is affiliated with the Lai Taekwon-Do group, providing opportunities for members to participate in numerous local and national tournaments throughout the year. Additionally, the club is associated with other renowned Taekwon-Do clubs in the Greater Melbourne region, such as St Albans, Taylors Lakes, Melton South, and Narre Warren. Associated clubs outside the Melbourne area include Sunraysia Taekwon-Do ITF in Mildura, GMAA in Goulburn, and Somerset Lai Taekwon-Do in Somerset, Tasmania.
