Rogate Lawn Bowling Club is a well-established club founded in 1930 and located in Petersfield, New Zealand. The club boasts four rinks and a clubhouse that was built in 2010, which provides changing rooms, toilets, and an area for entertaining visiting teams. With around 26 playing members, Rogate Bowling Club is self-financing and welcomes players of all skill levels.
Membership is open to everyone, and the club caters to both beginners and serious players. There are plenty of opportunities for competitive matches and club competitions, and Rogate Bowling Club also competes in the Three Counties Fellowship league. New members are always welcome and are encouraged to attend the club's roll-up sessions, which take place during the season from April to September. These sessions are held on Mondays from 2pm to 4pm and on Thursdays from 10am to midday.
For spectators, there is ample seating around the green.
If you're interested in trying your hand at lawn bowling, the club offers introductory coaching, which can be arranged through the Secretary or any club member. The club's history dates back to 1930, when bowls were played on the site of the present tennis court. Over the years, the club has faced various challenges, such as finding a new green after the war and expanding its facilities to accommodate the growing number of fixtures.
In recent years, the club's old wooden clubhouse was replaced with a larger, modern building named the Leon Hayes Clubhouse. Thanks to the hard work and generosity of the members, the new clubhouse was completed in time for the 2009 Bowls Season and officially opened in April 2010. The club holds an annual “Charity Match” to raise funds for a selected local charity, with past beneficiaries including The Rosemary Foundation, Sussex Air Ambulance, Homestart, Butser Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Macmillan Cancer.
