At Rotherham Chess Club, we welcome players of all ages and skill levels. Whether youre a beginner looking to learn the game or a seasoned player looking for some friendly competition, our club provides a supportive and inclusive environment for all chess enthusiasts.

We currently meet at the Three Cranes Inn, located at 29 High Street, Rotherham. The venue offers a comfortable and relaxed setting for our weekly meetups, which take place on most Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. There is plenty of free on-street parking available in town after 6pm, but we advise checking the posted signs for any parking restrictions.

In addition to our in-person meetings, we have also adapted to the challenges of the pandemic by running successful online events. This has allowed our members to stay connected and continue playing chess even when in-person gatherings were not possible.

Throughout the chess season, we participate in league competitions organised by the Sheffield and District Chess Association. While we do value good performance, our clubs focus is on enjoying the game and fostering camaraderie among our members.

We encourage both individual and team participation, and our club has welcomed new arrivals such as Jacob, Mark, and Damien, who have made significant contributions in their first full season. Our players have shown resilience and determination, earning victories in close-run matches against Woodseats B, Sheffield University, and Ecclesall B.

Looking ahead, we are excited for the upcoming 2023 Summer League, which kicks off on May 17th. On non-match nights, we will continue to meet at the Three Cranes for our regular club nights.
