Welcome to Rushden Chess Club (RCC), a long-standing and friendly chess club located in Rushden, Northamptonshire. With a history dating back to 1977, RCC has been providing a welcoming space for chess enthusiasts of all levels for over four decades.
RCC holds its meetings every Monday evening, except Bank Holidays, at our host venue, Rushden Town Bowling Club. The meetings start at 7pm and typically run until 9:00pm. You don't need to bring any equipment as the club provides all the necessary chess sets and boards.
The club is open to everyone, regardless of their chess abilities. Whether you're a beginner, an intermediate player, or an experienced chess enthusiast, RCC welcomes all-comers. We participate in the A and B divisions of the Northamptonshire Silver King league, pending Covid restrictions, and also organise various club tournaments throughout the year with different time controls.

Over the years, RCC has achieved numerous accolades and honours. We have been the champions of the Silver King League A division in 1988, 1990, 1991, and 1995. Additionally, we have won the John Robinson Knockout Trophy in 1979, 1987, 1989, 1990, and 1993. In 1990, we had a remarkable victory as we became both the SKL A division champions and the JRKO winners.
Our successes extend to the NCA Quickplay tournament, where we emerged as the winners in 2016.
RCC's rich history is also highlighted by its moves to various venues throughout the years. We started at Rushden Sports Centre, then relocated to Marriots Social Club in Washbrook Road, then to the British Legion Club in Higham Ferrers, and finally to The Compasses pub in Bedford Road. Each transition brought its unique experiences and contributed to the club's growth and development.
As our 45th year unfolds, Rushden Chess Club continues to be a vibrant and inclusive community of chess enthusiasts. Whether you're looking to improve your skills, engage in competitive games, or simply enjoy the game of chess in a friendly environment, we invite you to join us for a game at Rushden Chess Club. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
