SAMA Wing Chun

SAMA Wing Chun, based in Southampton, was established in 1993 and continues to be a cornerstone for Wing Chun Kung Fu enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. The school is known for its strong connection to the art's rich history, tracing its lineage back to the legendary Ng Mui, and offers authentic training experiences.

Stephen Cox, the Chief Instructor, has a compelling journey that led him to this role. His passion for Kung Fu was ignited by icons like Bruce Lee and the TV show “Kung Fu.” After exploring various martial arts, it was his encounter with a Wing Chun practitioner that truly captivated him. Under the mentorship of Robin Gardiner, Stephen honed his skills in Wing Chun, focusing on the practical application of its forms and techniques.

Stephen's dedication earned him a 6th Dan Wing Chun ranking. Over the years, he has welcomed a wide array of students, including Hamworthy Marines, Hampshire cricketer Adrian Aymes, former Saints player Reuben Agboola, and Phil Norman from “Gladiators.” Notably, actor Hon Ping Tang and Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington also trained at SAMA Wing Chun in their early years.
