Southern Tribes Waiwhakaiho is a Martial Arts club located in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Founded in 2018, the club is open to all individuals, regardless of age or experience. Their mission is to change lives by promoting self-confidence, humility, loyalty, and honour in a supportive Whanau (family) environment. The club offers a variety of disciplines including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Fitness, Submission Grappling, Self Defence, Bullyproof, and Wrestling/Whtt.
Their goal is to expose students to hauora, which encompasses physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being.
The club offers classes for different age groups and demographics. They have classes specifically tailored for kids, adults, women only, and corporate groups. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned black belt, the classes at Southern Tribes Waiwhakaiho are designed to cater to everyone's needs. The lessons strike a perfect balance between traditional and modern techniques, providing students with the best of both worlds in their martial arts journey.
For kids, the club offers specific classes such as “Mat Monsters” for 3-4-year-olds, “Teina” for 5-8-year-olds, and “Tuakana” for 9-12-year-olds. These classes focus on developing fitness, self-defence skills, and confidence while also ensuring a fun and enjoyable learning experience. Additionally, they have a dedicated Kids Bullyproof Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Programme aimed at equipping children with the tools to handle bullying situations effectively.
Adult classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays for GI Training, Fridays for No-Gi Training, and Sundays for No-Gi Open Mat. These classes cater to individuals interested in sport, self-defence, fitness, and having fun while learning martial arts.
Southern Tribes Waiwhakaiho also values community engagement and has partnered with Buddies Over Bullies, a non-profit organisation dedicated to creating a compassionate and supportive community free of bullying. They strive to tackle various forms of bullying, including cyberbullying, trolling, fake accounts, and attacks on vulnerable individuals. Through workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns, they educate the community about the impact of bullying and provide practical solutions to prevent it.
The club offers a support system for individuals facing bullying, their families, and the wider community. Their team of skilled coaches serves as allies in the fight against bullying, providing guidance and assistance whenever needed.
