Street Defensive Tactics PTY Ltd. is Australia's first full-time Krav Maga school located in Adelaide. With a team of senior instructors who are either current serving or ex-military, police, correctional services, or security personnel, all with a minimum of 20 years of martial arts experience, the level of expertise at this club is unmatched.
While specialising in teaching self-defence to individuals, Street Defensive Tactics also caters to those needing defensive tactics skills for professional or work contexts. They understand that the standard techniques taught in self-defence systems may not be suitable for use in settings with strict regulations or codes of conduct on the use of force, where civilians or members of the public may be present, and where surveillance cameras and smart phone video cameras are prevalent.
Street Defensive Tactics takes pride in teaching self-defence for the thinking person. They emphasise the importance of choosing the smartest option in response to any threat situation, considering the individual's own capabilities and circumstance. Their goal is not to dictate a response based on peer influence, ego, or the current martial arts trends, but rather to outsmart attackers who target those who are weaker, unarmed, and outnumbered. They recognise that every confrontation is unique and must be approached with adaptability and quick thinking under pressure.
They promote the notion that talking or walking away from a confrontation is often smarter than engaging in physical combat. Street Defensive Tactics believes that the real challenge of a street confrontation is more psychological than physical and encourages individuals to think for themselves and make informed decisions.
The head instructor of Street Defensive Tactics is Graham Kuerschner, who boasts over 50 years of continuous experience in self-defence. He has achieved instructor status in seven systems and has won titles in judo, Eskrima, and kickboxing. With his expertise, he is frequently sought after by the media for commentary on self-defence topics and has served as a police or legal expert witness in various serious legal cases. Graham is also a contributing editor to Blitz, Australia's national martial arts magazine, and has a regular column called the “Tactical Approach.
” He played a significant role in introducing and establishing Krav Maga in Australia as the inaugural Director for Krav Maga Global (KMG) Australia and New Zealand. Together with Eyal Yanilov, Chief Instructor for KMG, he authored the Instructor Manual for all KMG Krav Maga Instructors worldwide.
