Summerfields Trout Fishery is a private fishing club located in Bedford, New Zealand. Owned and managed by Sean Lee, a passionate angler, the fishery aims to attract both casual and dedicated fly-fishing enthusiasts. Membership is required to access the lake, as day tickets are not available.
The fishery is situated on the A600 just south of Dead Mans Cross, near Haynes in Bedfordshire. It has been a trout fishery since the late 70s when it was originally excavated for irrigation purposes. The lake is surrounded by picturesque countryside, with the A600 on one side and scenic landscapes teeming with wildlife on the other. Muntjac, herons, hares, rabbits, kites, buzzards, and pheasants can all be spotted in the vicinity.
The lake itself is shaped like the letter 'n' and boasts crystal clear waters with an average depth of 11 feet. Some areas reach depths of 35 feet. The fish stocked in the lake are primarily trout, with a minimum weight of 2 pounds. The fishery introduces a selection of trout weighing 3, 4, and 5 pounds, as well as brown trout that can range anywhere from 3 to an impressive 18 pounds.
It is important to note that all trout weighing above 10 pounds must be released back into the water.
In addition to trout, the lake is home to some roach and rudd. These fish species contribute to a large population of fry, which serve as a food source for the trout. The lake also supports a thriving ecosystem of crayfish and mussels.
Summerfields Trout Fishery is known for its hard-fighting fish that put anglers' tackle to the test. However, balanced tackle is essential for success on the water. Unbalanced tackle will not be rewarded.
