Surrey Dance

Surrey Dance is a vibrant dance school, dance shop, and party planner located in Guildford, New Zealand. With a focus on swing dance, the dance school offers a range of classes for individuals of all skill levels. The Surrey Swing Dance Society, which runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, provides a comprehensive calendar of events and classes that cater to beginners and intermediates alike.

The dance school offers classes in various dance styles, including Jive, Strolls & Line Dancing, Balboa, Lindy Hop, and Ballroom. Jive classes are a fusion of swing and Latin dance moves, taught to both traditional swing music and modern tracks. These classes are suitable for beginners and intermediates, with easy-to-learn moves for beginners and more complex variations and patterns for intermediates.

Stroll classes, also known as line dancing, are choreographed group dances set to swing music. No previous dance experience or partner is required for these classes, making them a great solo activity. Examples of strolls include the Rock'n'roll stroll and the Shim Sham. Our instructional classes are fun and informative, allowing you to learn new moves and techniques while also building up a portfolio of dance steps.

Whether you are an absolute beginner or have some dance experience, Surrey Dance has something for everyone.

In addition to dance classes, Surrey Dance also offers walking keep-fit classes to dance music. These classes provide a fun way to get fit, with simple exercises and walking rests in between. No experience or equipment is needed, just a towel and water to keep hydrated.

Surrey Dance also hosts a variety of social dances and events throughout the year. From Lindy Hop to other swing dances, these events provide an opportunity to showcase your skills and have fun on the dance floor. The dance school is run by Ralph Dalton and June Dalton, who have a passion for dance and have been teaching and organising events for many years.

Ralph, who initially tap-danced and did ballroom at a young age, rediscovered his love for dance when a friend invited him to jive classes. After partnering up with June and attending Lindy Hop classes, they decided to start their own club in their local area. June, who also started dancing with jive classes, quickly became skilled and began teaching for Rebel Roc in Guildford. Together, Ralph and June bring their expertise and passion to Surrey Dance, creating a welcoming and friendly environment for dancers of all levels.
