The Walcha Gun Club, a prominent Benchrest Shooting club in Walcha Council, is excited to announce the upcoming Taipan Shield event. This highly anticipated annual event has been a staple in the shooting community since its inception in 1974.
The brainchild of the passionate clay target shooter Elva Churches, the Taipan Shield was initially introduced as a way for women to engage in clay target shooting on their terms. It sought to provide an avenue for female shooters to participate without feeling obligated to compete side by side with their male counterparts.
Scheduled to take place during the months of October, November, or December, this event promises an exciting and inclusive experience for all women shooters. With an official referee overseeing the proceedings, participants can expect a fair and enjoyable competition.
Club teams, consisting of three women hailing from the same registered club with the ACTA, are warmly invited to join the event. In the event that a club has fewer than three registered female members, the option to enlist a substitute from a neighbouring club is available. This ensures that every interested individual can partake in the festivities.
The competition itself showcases the 1.25 Target Double Barrel 15m format, an exhilarating challenge that tests the skill and precision of each shooter. With a total of 75 targets per team, competitors will undoubtedly be in for an action-packed experience. In the event of a tied score, points scores will be utilised to determine the winner.
Members of the winning team will receive a special team member badge, a coveted symbol of their triumph in this prestigious event. However, in order for the competition to be officially constituted, a minimum of three teams must nominate. It is essential that the results of the competition are submitted to the ACTA by the first working day of January in the following year.
The Walcha Gun Club cordially invites all women shooters to partake in the Taipan Shield event and celebrate the legacy that has thrived for over four decades. Make sure to mark your calendars and secure your spot in this exhilarating competition. Your participation will help carry on the tradition of empowering women in the world of clay target shooting. Let the Taipan Shield be an event to remember!
