The Halifax Karate ISKF, also known as the Halifax International Shotokan Karate Federation, is a traditional Shotokan style karate club located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Established in 1979 as the Dalhousie Karate Club, the Halifax ISKF is dedicated to promoting the practice of karate-do, the "Way of the Empty Hand" as founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi, to the community of the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Headed by Sensei Tony Tam and Sensei Danny Tam, both 8th-degree black belts, the Halifax ISKF boasts the highest-ranking certified ISKF instructors in Eastern Canada, with over 49 years of teaching experience each. The club is associated with ISKF dojos nationally and internationally, providing a comprehensive and authentic karate training experience.
The dojo offers classes for individuals with varying levels of experience. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to join dedicated beginner classes to learn the fundamentals of Shotokan karate. For those with prior martial arts experience, the Halifax ISKF requires all students to start in the beginner class regardless of rank. This policy is in place to ensure that all students learn the principles of ISKF Shotokan in a systematic and thorough manner.
