The Pilates and Fitness Studio, located at Brook Farm in Long Sutton, Somerset, is a small, air-conditioned studio nestled on the edge of the stunning Somerset Levels. Surrounded by picturesque countryside, our working farm, and a charming campsite, we provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where ladies and gentlemen can improve their movement, strength, flexibility, and posture.
At The Pilates and Fitness Studio, we believe in offering personal attention to every client, which is why we keep our class sizes small. This ensures that each individual can receive the maximum benefit from their sessions with us. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our class sizes are currently limited to a maximum of three participants, allowing for ample personal attention and the correct execution of Pilates exercises.
We offer a range of Pilates classes and also provide the option for one-on-one or two-on-one sessions. Currently, our group classes are structured in four-week blocks. If you would like to know more about our classes or book a session, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.
As advocates of the Pilates method, we adhere to the six fundamental principles of Pilates.
1. Breathing: Pilates utilises lateral thoracic breathing, where the lungs are filled with air while the abdominals remain quiet and still. Synchronisation of breath and movement is integral to the practise of Pilates.
2. Control: The mind should have complete control over the body, both in small and large movements. Each exercise should be performed deliberately and with precision.
3. Centering: Focus on the deep muscles of the core, which lie between the bottom of the ribcage and the hipbones. These muscles, including the Transversus Abdominis, Multifidus, Pelvic Floor, and Internal Obliques, strengthen and protect the spine, as well as maintain proper posture.
4. Flow: Fluidity and continuity are essential in Pilates, where each exercise should seamlessly transition into the next without any jerking or disjointed movements. All body parts should work harmoniously together.
5. Concentration: Giving each Pilates exercise your complete concentration is crucial. Proper execution and focused movement allow for the development of muscle memory.
6. Precision: Positioning, alignment, breathing, and movement must all be precise to achieve success in each exercise. Quality is more important than quantity in Pilates, so performing one movement perfectly is superior to multiple movements done incorrectly.
