Truro River Rowing Club, located in Truro, New Zealand, is a welcoming and competitive rowing club that caters to rowers of all abilities and ages. Whether you are a seasoned rower or just starting out, Truro River Rowing Club provides an inclusive and friendly environment for you to row, both competitively and socially.
The club's fleet consists of three traditional wooden gigs, named Royal, Messack, and Spurr, as well as two fibreglass training gigs. These boats ensure a variety of options for rowers to choose from and help accommodate different skill levels and preferences.
Truro River Rowing Club is an active community both on and off the water, engaging in activities throughout the year. The club launches their boats from Loe Beach and regularly holds training sessions in their Gig Shed. The Carrick Roads, a sheltered body of water, allows the club to row in various weather conditions when other clubs may be unable to do so.
Founded in 1985, Truro River Rowing Club holds the distinction of being the oldest of the “new” generation of gig clubs. Their oldest gig, Royal, is not only a part of their rich history but also a testament to the club's success, having won the first Scillies World Pilot Gig Championship. Furthermore, Royal is one of the few gigs that had participated in every Pilot Gig Rowing World Championship until the rule change in 2022.
In the 2022 World Pilot Gig Championships, Truro River Rowing Club made a remarkable impact with their Men's A crew finishing second overall. Additionally, all their other crews achieved impressive results, finishing in the top third of their respective fields. For a comprehensive report on their successful performance in the 2022 WPGC, more information can be found on their website.
Truro River Rowing Club takes pride in being a charitable incorporated organisation, registered under the charity number 1190075. Their commitment to giving back to the community is evident in their efforts to support and promote the sport of rowing.
