Kia ora sports community,
Andrew Grant here would like to extend a warm invitation to join TKAHA Rotorua, or as many know it, Whanoa Jiu Jitsu. Located right here in Rotorua, this family-run Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy offers classes five days a week for everyone aged 7 and above. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned practitioner, TKAHA Rotorua provides a welcoming environment to hone your skills.
Andrew and his team offer a mix of classes for different ages and skill levels. There are women's only sessions, Kura kaupapa Māori and school programmes, de-escalation and safe restraints training, personal coaching, weekly open mats, and more. Memberships are flexible, with casual, weekly, and annual plans available to fit around your schedule.
What’s special about TKAHA Rotorua is that it’s a not-for-profit. All funds go back into the club, supporting both the sport and its members. By joining, you’ll become part of a community focused on personal growth and empowerment.
At TKAHA Rotorua, Jiu Jitsu is seen as more than just a self-defence system. It’s a holistic practice that impacts every aspect of life. Drawing on the philosophy of Te Whare Tapa Whā, the academy covers physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being. Practices like karakia and tikanga Māori are integral, creating a well-rounded and meaningful experience.
Training here doesn’t just improve physical fitness—students also build strength, coordination, and resilience. These benefits carry over into everyday life, helping members stay calm and confident in various situations.
At the helm is Professor Anaru Grant, a dedicated and knowledgeable head instructor. Anaru, of Māori descent and with a kapa haka background, discovered Jiu Jitsu in 2010 and earned his Black Belt in November 2020 from Professor Pedro Pacheco Fernandes. His competitive achievements, both nationally and internationally, speak volumes. Alongside his extensive teaching experience, Anaru’s guidance is invaluable for students at all levels.
If you’re keen to join TKAHA Rotorua, there’s a membership plan to suit everyone—from tamariki (children) to pakeke (adults). For more details, visit their website or reach out directly. Keep an eye on their online calendar to stay updated on upcoming events and classes.
Andrew Grant and the TKAHA Rotorua team are committed to providing an enriching and supportive Jiu Jitsu journey for all members. Join them and be part of something special.
