Diagnosis of trauma to practise yoga with us, as our classes are open to everyone. Our Philosophy At Ujjayi Yoga Tasmania, our philosophy is rooted in sharing our own authentic Hatha yoga that we have explored over many years of experience. This type of yoga has helped us transform and live resilient lives, enabling us to live our truth and give back to our families and community.
Trauma Sensitive Therapy Our lead teacher, Sarah Van Est, is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Trauma Sensitive Yoga teacher. She offers body-based therapies for trauma recovery in closed groups and private therapeutic sessions. With her extensive knowledge and experience, Sarah provides compassionate care to help individuals manage, relieve, and heal from the hurt and wounds of trauma and life's challenging experiences.
Ujjayi means 'to be victorious', and we believe that everyone deserves to live victorious lives. As such, our invitation is for you to come and be curious, to explore yoga and what it can offer you. In our studio, there is an opportunity for you to develop strength, resilience, flexibility, and balance of body, mind, and self.
About Ujjayi Yoga Tasmania Our studio is located in Launceston's CBD, specifically at level 1/67 George Street. We have meticulously renovated a historical building to create a bespoke studio with lots of natural light and a fresh feel. The restored polished wooden floorboards provide the perfect surface for your yoga practise.
At Ujjayi, we offer multiple yoga programmes on a term basis. Our focus is on teaching the philosophy and history of yoga and applying yoga as a therapeutic practise for healing trauma. These programmes are open to everyone, regardless of their skill level. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced yogi, there is a practise suitable for you.
In addition to group classes, Sarah Van Est also offers private 1:1 sessions for trauma recovery. These sessions utilise Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Somatic Experiencing, and other body-based therapies to assist individuals in safely reconnecting with their bodies, navigating trauma, and finding healing. These sessions are available in person at our Launceston studio or online.
The Ujjayi studio provides all the necessary equipment and facilities for your yoga practise. We offer free use of yoga mats, blocks, bolsters, blankets, and props. We also have secure storage for personal items during class and new showers and toilets for freshening up afterwards. Additionally, we have a modern Swedish sauna heated to 70-80C for those interested in further relaxation.
Please note that our studio is located on the first floor and is accessed via a large flight of stairs. However, if stairs present a challenge for you, and you are interested in private therapeutic sessions, we are more than happy to arrange another location.
We are proud to offer trauma-informed classes, ensuring that the yoga we share is sensitive to the many nuances of trauma symptoms. At Ujjayi Yoga Tasmania, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive space where everyone feels safe and supported.
