Junior Cricket Action-packed fun for Pre and Primary School Children
John, the organiser at Weedons Cricket Club, wants to share some exciting news with the sports community. He's passionate about nurturing young talent and creating a positive environment for kids to learn and develop their cricket skills.
The Junior Club season runs from October to March, with a break over the summer school holidays. For the 2023/2024 season, matches kick off on Saturday 13 October 2023 and wrap up on Saturday 23 March 2024. There won’t be any games on Canterbury Show Weekend.
The club offers programmes for different age groups and skill levels. The Junior Yellow Caps programme is for pre-school and Year 1 children, around 4–6 years old. These fun sessions introduce kids to batting, bowling, and fielding. Sessions are on late Friday afternoons from Friday 3 November 2023 to Friday 8 December 2023. Everything needed is provided, and the cost for the season is $80.
Weedons Cricket Club, founded in 1879, is Canterbury's largest cricket club and New Zealand's oldest club still playing at its original ground. Located in Rolleston, it serves players from the Weedons area, including West Melton, Burnham, and Broadfield.
In addition to junior programmes, the club also offers various competitions and formats for senior players aged 18 and older. They provide support and resources for all members, including updates on Facebook about the latest news and events.
John wants to thank the club’s generous sponsors like BCITO (Gold Sponsor) and Silver Sponsors, including Selwyn Print, Halter, Mota Mova, Harmans Lawyers, Moa Brewing Co, Rossendale Winery, Motus Health, Dynasty Sport, and Child Cancer Foundation – Charity. Their support is crucial for the club's success.
The club is located at Weedons Domain on 685 Maddisons Rd, Rolleston. They take pride in their facilities and dedicated committee members. The contributions of esteemed life members are highly valued too.
For any enquiries or to get involved, feel free to contact the club via email. John and the team look forward to welcoming you to Weedons Cricket Club, where the spirit of cricket has thrived since 1879.
