Welcome to Wellington Swords Fencing Club, a friendly, and sociable fencing club located in Wellington, New Zealand. The club welcomes fencers of all ages and abilities, offering specialist coaching in both epee and foil. Whether you are a beginner who has never picked up a sword before, a recreational fencer looking for some fun, or a serious competitor aiming to climb the national rankings, Wellington Swords Fencing Club is the place for you. Even if you've been away from fencing for a while, you can pop in and rediscover the excitement and rewards of this sport.
The club offers training sessions on Mondays and Thursdays. On Mondays, there is a youth session from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, followed by a seniors (foil) session from 7:30pm to 9:15pm. On Thursdays, there is a youth session from 6:00pm and a seniors (epee) session from 7:00pm to 9:15pm. The club is located in the sports hall at IKB Primary School, with access through the double doors in the sports hall.
If you're new to fencing and want to experience the sport, Wellington Swords Fencing Club offers free taster sessions. Simply get in touch at info@WellingtonSwords. Club to arrange a session. The club also runs periodic beginners courses to help beginners get started.
Club evenings consist of warm-up sessions, footwork and blade skills exercises, individual lessons with the coach, and competitive fencing.
Visiting fencers are welcome to join the club for an evening of fencing. The first session for visiting fencers is free. So if you're passing through Wellington or staying locally for a short time, why not drop in and enjoy some fencing?
The Wellington Open 2023, an exciting fencing competition, is coming back to the calendar. The competition will be held on 1-2 April 2023. To enter, simply fill out the online form. The closing date for entry is 26 March 2023, with the possibility of late entry at a slightly higher fee.
The competition includes epee, foil, and sabre events, and entry fees range from 30 for one weapon to 70 for three weapons. The competition welcomes veterans aged 40 and above, with a separate category and medal for the best-placed veteran. Novices, fencers with fewer than two years of experience, also have the opportunity to participate in a separate direct elimination event, with a prize for the best-placed novice.
Wellington Swords Fencing Club upholds the highest standards of safety and equipment quality. All equipment must meet British Fencing Association (BFA) standards. The club also offers new and second-hand equipment for sale, so fencers can find everything they need to participate.
