West End Croquet Club

Welcome to the West End Croquet Club, located in the picturesque West End Park in Timaru. With four beautifully maintained lawns, we offer both Association and Golf croquet for players of all ages and skill levels.

Club days are a highlight of our week, with Association croquet games held on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday afternoons at 1. 30pm. For Golf croquet enthusiasts, there are morning games on Monday and Thursday at 9. 15am, with the option of joining in on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons as well, sharing the lawns with the Association players.

Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the game, we welcome both men and women to join our club. For beginners, mallets are available, and our friendly members are more than happy to provide tuition to help you improve your skills.

At the West End Croquet Club, our focus is not only on the game but also on the fun and companionship that comes with being part of a club. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and enjoy the social aspect of the sport.

Colleen Woods serves as the President of our club, and we have a dedicated committee to ensure smooth operations. The committee includes Shirley Abraham as the Secretary, Marjorie O'Neill as the Treasurer, Alison Bartlett as the Vice President, Mel Guerin as the Association Captain, Margaret Wood and Gina Tackney as the Golf Croquet Captains, Carol Burt as the Handicapper, Don Evans as the Grounds person, and Sandra Prue, Jean Bown, and Jan Robb as the Hostesses. Carole Graham serves as the Coach, and Alison Bartlett and Nola Richardson handle the Raffles.

The history of the West End Croquet Club goes back to its formation in 1923. With an initial membership of 34 and lawns leased from the West End Bowling Club, the club started its journey. Over the years, the club has organised various events and fundraisers, including baking competitions, socials, card afternoons, and cake and sweet stalls, all aimed at supporting the club and creating a vibrant community.
