Dave Bennett would like to extend his heartfelt thanks to the entire sports community for their continued support of the West Midlands Golf League. As the organiser, Dave is proud to oversee a tradition that began in 1967. The league promotes golf and fosters friendships among golf clubs in the West Midlands and the surrounding areas through competitive handicap golf.
The league started with 24 clubs and has since grown to include 36 clubs, with the original 24 still participating. It's a testament to the community's enduring commitment. The league is managed efficiently with the help of email, a banking system, and a website. Each zone within the league has a dedicated Zone Secretary who keeps fixtures and results up-to-date.
For transparency, an annual subscription fee covers administration costs, and a full balance sheet is presented at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The committee, made up of a Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, and Zone Secretary, ensures smooth operations.
The league is known for its prestigious trophies and knockout competitions. The Roberts-Levine Trophy is a highlight, awarded annually to the league champions. The top clubs from each zone, along with the best third-place clubs, move on to the knockout stage, with matches played home and away, culminating in a final at a neutral venue.
Recently, the league introduced the Lewis Trophy. This competition involves third-place clubs from each zone that don't qualify for the Roberts-Levine Trophy, as well as the fourth-place clubs. Matches follow a similar format, with the final at a neutral venue.
Dave is proud of the league's role in providing a platform for golfers to display their skills, build camaraderie, and enjoy the game. If you'd like to join the league or want more information, please contact the league to discuss further details.
