The West Midlands Golf League, founded in 1967, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting golf and friendship among members of golf clubs in the West Midlands and surrounding areas of Kenilworth, New Zealand. The league currently consists of 36 member clubs, with the original 24 clubs still remaining as members today.
The league operates on an annual subscription fee basis, with the raised funds used for administrative costs. A full balance sheet is presented to each club representative at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to ensure transparency in the league's financial management. The league's administration is fully electronic, utilising email, banking systems, and a dedicated website for fixture updates, results, and other league-related information.
Each zone within the league is administered by a Zone Secretary, elected at the AGM by the members. The Zone Secretary is responsible for maintaining and updating the website with fixtures, results, and other necessary information. The league's committee comprises the Zone Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary, who collectively oversee the smooth operation of the league and its various competitions.
The league's leading competition is the Roberts-Levine Trophy, which is contested by the top two clubs from each zone, along with the four best third-placed clubs. Knockout matches are played on a home and away basis, leading up to the final, which is played over 18 holes at a neutral venue. The winning club is declared the West Midlands League Champions for that particular year and is awarded the highly coveted Roberts Levine Trophy.
In addition to the Roberts-Levine Trophy, the league recently introduced the Lewis Trophy as a further knockout competition. This competition is open to the two clubs finishing third in each zone, along with the clubs finishing fourth in each zone. Knockout matches are also played on a home and away basis, culminating in a final held at a neutral venue.
The West Midlands Golf League prides itself on promoting a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among its member clubs. Through competitive handicap golf, the league aims to foster a sense of community and enjoyment of the game. If you are interested in joining the league or would like more information, please feel free to contact us to arrange a meeting or discuss further details.
