Wigan Taekwondo Academy

Wigan Taekwondo Academy has been a cornerstone of the martial arts community in Wigan for over 18 years. Founded by experienced instructors, this well-respected school has seen countless students achieve the coveted Black Belt. Avril, the organiser, wants everyone to know that the academy is committed to creating a family-oriented and welcoming environment where all ages and abilities can thrive.

Classes run for an intensive 1 hour and 30 minutes, but they are designed to accommodate individual strengths and challenges. Once students get the basics down, the programme boosts their physical capabilities and hones their martial skills.

Family training is a major focus at Wigan Taekwondo Academy. Parents are encouraged to train alongside their children, creating a strong bond and keeping things fun. For children under 5, a parent must always be present to ensure everyone's safety.

Reaching Black Belt standard varies per student, depending on their dedication and training frequency. Those who train thrice a week will find themselves progressing faster compared to those who train less. On average, a committed student might expect to achieve Black Belt within 3 to 5 years. Of course, grading isn't automatic; the challenges grow as students advance.

Avril ensures that everyone stays updated and engaged, with regular communications about class schedules, student milestones, and club news. An introductory session is also available for newcomers to Taekwondo.

The academy is led by two seasoned instructors. The head instructor holds a 4th Dan Black Belt, 25 years of coaching experience, and is registered with Kukkiwon in South Korea. They boast numerous credentials like Level 2 in British Taekwondo and Level 2 YMCA Gym Instructor. The second instructor is equally impressive with a 2nd Dan Black Belt, 11 years of experience, and various certifications in British Taekwondo and Advanced coaching in sport Taekwondo.

Wigan Taekwondo Academy is a member of British Taekwondo, affiliated with major organisations like World Taekwondo, the British Olympic Association, and UK Sport. This ensures that the academy keeps high standards in their training.
