About

Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre, located at 75 Church Lane, Wistaston, CW2 8ER, has been a cornerstone of the community since 1949. Built in memory of sixteen locals who lost their lives in World War II, it was officially opened by Lady Barlow on 26th March 1949. Rev. G M Morgan-Wynne led a prayer, Rev. W Raby read from the Bible, and Mrs Aleathea Tomkinson unveiled the memorial plaque.

Above the main entrance, an illuminated plaque honours those who died in various global conflicts. The Hall is a registered charity (No. 520140) and hosts numerous activities. The Main Armitage Hall can be booked for £16 per hour, while the Dudley and Holmes rooms are available for £12 per hour. For children’s parties, the Main Hall and Kitchen can be rented for three hours at £55. All bookings must go through Bill Heath at 01270 560471.

In addition to private bookings, the Hall supports many clubs and societies, offering a welcoming space for social, recreational, and cultural activities. John White, a past Committee Chairman, researched the lives of the sixteen individuals memorialised on the plaque, revealing their sacrifices in varied locations like India, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, and Italy.

The Hall's main aim is to serve the community, providing a venue for reflection, celebration, and gatherings. Managed by dedicated trustees, it relies on donations for its upkeep. Regular events keep the community engaged and connected, fostering a spirit of unity.

Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre stands as a tribute to the sacrifices of those sixteen locals during the war and remains a valued community hub.
