At Yoga Kala in Esher, you'll find Shim – a dedicated yoga instructor and massage therapist with a wealth of experience. Shim's journey with yoga kicked off early, thanks to her mum's introduction, and she's been hooked ever since. Shim's ventured through India, training at top spots like Ved Niketan in Rishikesh and BNS Iyengar Mysore Mandala.
In 2001, Shim nailed her Sivananda Yoga teacher qualification and went on to work with patients at The Nightingale Hospital. By 2006, she was also a certified Nutritional Therapist with the Institute of Optimum Nutrition, broadening her approach to wellness.
Shim’s recently dived into Restorative Yoga, training with Adelene Cheung. This practice brings true relaxation, using props like bolsters and blankets to help the body relax and heal. It’s perfect for the hustle and bustle of modern life.
But Shim’s skills don't stop there. She’s also mastered Chavutti Thirumal, a South Indian martial art massage, which she learned from Helen Noakes. This massage targets specific areas to relieve tension and promote overall well-being.
In Shim's classes, you’ll move through classic hatha yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques inspired by Swami Sivananda. Expect gentle warm-ups, Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), and the 12 Sivananda asanas, all with a focus on the breath and mind.
Beyond yoga and massage, Shim is into herbs, nutrition, and well-being. In 2019, she started formulating organic skincare with ethically sourced and sustainable products, living by the principle of Ahimsa – non-harming.
Yoga Kala in Esher is open to everyone, regardless of your level or background. Shim is ready to guide you, whether you’re into the physical perks of yoga, the therapeutic power of massage, or you just want to connect with yourself.
