Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) is a prominent sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. Established in 2006, it is the first State Government Funded Specialist Sports School Programme in Victoria. The academy caters to over 550 student-athletes who actively participate in a variety of sports, including popular sports such as cricket, soccer, and AFL.
At MSA, the core values of respect, honesty, leadership, determination, and community are deeply ingrained in all aspects of the club's operations. These values serve as the foundation for fostering a supportive and inclusive sporting community.
The academy offers two tour options to accommodate mainstream Maribyrnong College enrolments and Sports Academy enrolments. Potential visitors can choose between an Academy Tour or a Virtual Tour to get an insight into the facilities and programmes offered by MSA.
During the day, the academy's top-notch facilities are utilised by the students. However, during evenings and weekends, the venue transforms into a community space that can be hired for various events and functions. MSA takes pride in being a valuable resource for the community, providing a venue that supports the local sports ecosystem.
As a member of the National Advisory Group, MSA actively contributes to the National Research Agenda in collaboration with representatives from the sports sector. Through targeted collaboration, MSA aims to address policy challenges and bridge knowledge gaps within the industry.
Enrolment into MSA is competitive and follows a select-entry process. While talent is an important factor during selection, the academy also considers the student-athlete's potential for development in high-performance sport and their ability to balance sports and academic performance. MSA does not have local zoning requirements, so applicants are not mandated to live in the local area.
In line with its commitment to inclusivity, MSA welcomes applications from students with eligible impairments for para-sport. With the support of Paralympics Australia, MSA aims to provide performance pathways for para-athletes.
All student-athletes selected for entry into MSA receive scholarship funds from the Department of Education and Training (DET). These funds cover a wide range of services and programmes, including coaching, facilities, equipment costs, transportation, excursions, guest speakers, and access to expert sport science services.
While most expenses are covered by scholarship funds, there are certain items that may not be included. Interested individuals can refer to the fees and charges section on the academy's website for a comprehensive breakdown of costs.
The Sports Director welcomes all aspiring athletes and sports enthusiasts to the Maribyrnong Sports Academy. With a strong focus on skill development and academic performance, MSA provides a unique sporting and educational experience for its student-athletes.
