Mitcham Rhythmic Gymnastic Club was formed 1979 and provides the opportunity for girls to join the world of Rhythmic Gymnastics. The Not for Profit club is affiliated with Gymnastics SA and Gymnastics Australia.
We welcome everyone and are pleased to cater for all abilities and ambitions. It doesn't matter if your goal is to be an Australian Champion or you just want to have fun, you will be a valued member of our club.
Rhythmic Gymnastics is a combination of ballet, dance, acrobatics and circus moves, displaying gymnastic movements and apparatus skills. Gymnasts have to demonstrate artistry, fitness, coordination, and strength. The sport improves hand-eye coordination, balance and promotes self-expression and creativity.
Gymnasts perform routines on the floor mats to music using apparatus Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. Free Routines are also performed at the lower levels. All routines show fundamental body movements from the categories of leaps & jumps, balances, pivots, and flexibilities. Series of dance steps are compulsory and acrobatic elements may also be included.
Music should contain changes in mood and tempo a match the gymnast's style and apparatus. Our club encourages a nurturing and supportive atmosphere where older and higher level gymnasts encourage and support younger gymnasts and visa versa.
