Olinda Golf Club

Olinda Golf Club is a well-established sports club located in the Yarra Ranges Shire in Australia. It was founded in 1968 and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The club has faced challenges regarding its home course, first losing Olinda and then Emerald, but it has shown great resilience and determination in finding a new home at Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links.

The main objective of Olinda Golf Club is to provide its members with encouragement and opportunities to play golf in a pleasant and supportive environment. The club offers various forms of club competitions to expose its members to different playing formats. Additionally, it allows participants to obtain and maintain an Australian Golf Handicap, and through its affiliation with the Victorian Golf League (VGL), it enables members to participate in Pennant Competitions and other events organised by the League.

In terms of recent news and events, Olinda Golf Club recently started playing at Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links. The first rounds at the new course were well-attended, with good membership numbers despite the summer holidays. The club saw the introduction of new members from the Emerald Golf Club, as well as the conversion of an associate member to a full member. The competition demonstrated that the course at Cardinia Beaconhills suits some players better than others, with Bruce Williams emerging as the overall winner in both rounds.

In addition, the club holds an annual event called “King of the Hills,” which originally began as a 36-hole event paying tribute to the hilly Olinda Course. Over the years, it evolved into an invitation event with sponsorship. However, due to declining course maintenance, it was eventually scaled back to a club competition. In 2017, the event made a comeback with a new name, “King of the Hills,” and is now run in conjunction with Cardinia Beaconhills on the Grand Final Friday Public Holiday.
