At the Champion Lakes Boating Club. The club offers a diverse range of water sports including rowing, dragon boating, kayaking, and radio-controlled sailing.
Established in July 2008, the Champion Lakes Boating Club is the youngest rowing club in Western Australia and holds a primary presence at the prestigious Champion Lakes Regatta Centre. This centre is an internationally recognised facility for rowing, kayaking, and dragon boating, making it an ideal location for our club.
The rowing division of the club was established with the support of “Westies” and Rowing WA, who provided resources for our Learn to Row courses. Notable figures such as Pamela Pearson and Daniel Foucar played significant roles in driving the early success of the club. In 2009, the club made its first appearance in competitive regattas and Daniel Foucar claimed the club's first state title.
The Champion Lakes Boating Club also has programmes in place to promote rowing in local schools, namely Kelmscott Senior High School and Southern River College. These initiatives have contributed to the development of talented rowers, including state-selected athlete Kate Farley.
Our club prides itself on its small yet enthusiastic membership base, which welcomes individuals of all ages and abilities. Whether you are a novice or experienced rower, our membership packages cater to your needs. Novice rowers can start with our Learn to Row sessions, which provide a strong foundation in safety, boat identification, and rowing technique. Masters rowing events are also available for those aged 27 and above, with races organised by age grades.
Members of the Champion Lakes Boating Club have the opportunity to compete in local regattas. The regatta calendar is organised by Rowing WA, ensuring a well-structured and competitive environment for our rowers. Open rowing events are allocated according to a Rowing Score (RS) determined by Rowing WA. Participants compete in grades A to E based on their allocated RS.
Masters rowing events are also available for those looking to compete in their respective age groups.
If you are interested in joining our rowing family or want to learn more about our Learn to Row sessions or membership options, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to welcoming you to the Champion Lakes Boating Club!
