Newcastle Cross Country

Newcastle Cross Country is a cross country running club located in Newcastle, Australia. The club welcomes members of all ages, starting from 6 years old, who have a passion for cross country running. The club's season runs from April to August, with events taking place every Saturday afternoon at various venues across the Hunter Region.

During these events, runners have the opportunity to compete on different surfaces, ranging from hard road base to sand, and in different settings, including suburban and bush areas. Regardless of the weather, participants are encouraged to run at their own pace and strive to achieve their personal best in various distances.

Newcastle Cross Country is driven by a dedicated committee of volunteers who aim to provide a diverse programme of events. They ensure that their offerings cater to individual runners, families, and even walkers who prefer a less competitive challenge. The committee works tirelessly to create a schedule that appeals to all members and ensures their enjoyment and growth within the sport.

Volunteers are highly valued and considered the backbone of the organisation. As such, the club expects every registered adult or adult caregiver to contribute by volunteering at least once during the season. This collaborative effort reflects the club's commitment to fostering a supportive and united community.

To participate in each run, members are required to complete a pre-race event entry by the Friday night prior to the event. Additionally, it is essential to bring along the membership shoe tag, which is provided upon registration. New members will have to collect their shoe tag on the day of their first run. Other necessary items to bring include personal water, as it will not be provided for health and safety reasons, and money for parking at certain venues.

Participants are also advised to bring insect repellent due to potential mosquito activity and consider investing in an arm band and running belt pouch for their mobile phones and keys, respectively.

The Annual General Meeting is a significant event for the Newcastle Cross Country Club, providing an opportunity for all interested parties to gather and discuss the future of the club. This meeting is open to the public and will be held on Thursday 26 October 2023 from 7:30pm at the Lloyd Deverall Meeting Room, located in the Clubhouse at Nesbitt Park, Cnr Grayson and Casey Avenues, Kotara South.
