The Philippa Campbell School of Ballet, located in Auckland, is a renowned ballet school offering exceptional training for aspiring dancers. Led by principal Philippa Campbell, a highly accomplished RAD RTS ballet educator, and supported by a team of experienced instructors, the school aims to cultivate talent and nurture the passion for ballet in students of all ages and skill levels.
The school has two convenient locations. The Mt Eden Studio, situated at 36 Rossmay Terrace in Mt Eden, caters to students from pre-school age to Solo Seal level. The Grey Lynn Studio, housed at the Grey Lynn Community Centre on 510 Richmond Road, focuses on students from pre-school age to Grade 5.
At the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet, the curriculum follows the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. Students progress through different levels based on their age and abilities. Pre-school classes are available for children aged 3 years and 6 months to 5 years old, while pre-primary classes are designed for children aged 5 years and above until they pass the relevant exam. Primary classes cater to students aged 6 years and above, once they have successfully completed the pre-primary exam.
To ensure optimal learning and development, grade students are encouraged to attend a minimum of two classes per week. Additional classes at their level are also available at either the Mt Eden or Grey Lynn branches. It is important to note that there are age limits imposed by RAD for exams, so some children may remain in a level until they reach the appropriate age.
Enrolment for classes can be done by emailing philippacampbellschoolofballet@gmail. Com. The school also provides optional classes and opportunities for students to participate in competitions, seminars, and full-time training programmes. They have a strong affiliation with the Royal New Zealand Ballet and have had students successfully audition and perform with the company.
Term dates for the school align with the traditional academic calendar, with four terms per year. Currently, the 2023 term dates are as follows: Term 1 (7 February – 6 April), Term 2 (24 April – 1 July), Term 3 (17 July – 23 September), and Term 4 (9 October – 17 December). The school does not hold an enrolment day, but enrolment is open throughout the year.
