The gym is dedicated to providing a high-quality experience for climbers of all levels. From the location to the route-setting and climbing hold selection, every aspect of Skywood Climbing has been carefully curated to ensure a top-notch bouldering experience.
The team at Skywood Climbing comprises knowledgeable and experienced staff members who are passionate about climbing. Yossi Sundakov-Krumins, the owner and head route setter, leads the gym with his background as a world cup competitor and a national level route-setter. Together with Tyrone Clements, the operations manager and 2IC route setter, Sophie Chan, the media designer, and other talented route setters and staff members, they work to create a welcoming and challenging environment for climbers.
Before starting to climb at Skywood, it's important to understand what bouldering is. Bouldering involves climbing on 4-5 metre walls without the use of a harness or rope. Instead, climbers climb over padded mats for safety. Skywood Climbing offers both indoor bouldering and outdoor bouldering on real rock.
Bouldering has gained popularity as a fun and social way to build fitness and strength.
The gym uses a grading system to indicate the difficulty levels of the climbs. Coloured tags are placed at the start of each climb, with yellow representing the easiest level and black representing the most challenging level. The difficulty levels slightly overlap, encouraging climbers to try climbs of different levels.
To ensure safety and efficiency, Skywood Climbing requires climbers to fill out an online waiver form before their first visit. This can be done through the provided link or at one of the tablets available at the gym. Upon arrival, climbers will also receive a check-in tag, which they can use to scan in each time they visit the gym.
Skywood Climbing offers various pricing options to accommodate different needs. Single entry prices for adults are $26, while students can enjoy a discounted rate of $23. 40. Student Tuesdays offer an even lower price of $15.
