The West Midlands Golf League, founded in 1967, is a non-profit organisation based in Solihull, New Zealand. The league's primary purpose is to promote golf and foster friendship among members of golf clubs in the West Midlands and surrounding areas through competitive handicap golf.
The league consists of 36 member clubs, with the original 24 clubs still being part of the league today. Each club pays an annual subscription fee, which covers the administration costs of the league. The league's administration is fully electronic, utilising email, banking systems, and a website for communication and record-keeping purposes.
The league is divided into zones, each of which is administered by a Zone Secretary elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Zone Secretary is responsible for managing fixtures, results, and other necessary updates on the league's website. The league's committee includes the Zone Secretary, as well as a Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary.
The league hosts various tournaments and competitions throughout the year, including the prestigious Roberts-Levine Trophy. The top two clubs from each zone, along with the four best third-place clubs, advance to the knockout stage of the competition. Knockout matches are played home and away, with the final being held at a neutral venue. The winner of the Roberts-Levine Trophy is crowned the West Midlands League Champion for the year.
In addition to the Roberts-Levine Trophy, the league introduced the Lewis Trophy as a further knockout competition. This tournament is open to the two clubs finishing in third place in each zone, as well as the clubs finishing in fourth place. Similar to the Roberts-Levine Trophy, knockout matches are played on a home and away basis, with the final taking place at a neutral venue.
The West Midlands Golf League is dedicated to providing a platform for golfers to compete, develop their skills, and build lasting friendships. If interested in joining the league, individuals are encouraged to contact the league to arrange a meeting or discuss membership details further.
