John Richards, the driving force behind Zen-Shin Martial Art Academy Harborne in Birmingham, has been shaping martial artists since 1980. Zen-Shin isn’t just a place for training; it’s where physical, emotional, and social growth is fostered. John’s mission is clear: empower students to succeed in life through martial arts.
At Zen-Shin, students train in the time-honoured art of Shotokan Karate, with kickboxing classes also available. The academy instils “Black Belt Excellence,” pushing students to aim high, develop resilience, and never give up.
Classes cater to all age groups. The “Little Ninja” programme is for 5–6-year-olds, enhancing coordination and listening skills. For 7–11-year-olds, “Junior” classes build confidence and self-control, while promoting new friendships. For teens, “Cadet” classes challenge them physically and mentally, helping them lead and achieve their goals.
Adults of all levels are welcomed to explore karate, and free trial classes are offered. Kickboxing is also available for those aged 12 and up, ensuring a robust, full-body workout.
