Founded in 2001, Headingley AFC has quickly risen through the ranks of the football pyramid. Starting in the Red Triangle League, the club has progressed to the West Yorkshire League leading Division, which is a direct feeder league into the Northern Counties. The club's first team competes at this level, while the reserve team competes in the West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One, which is the highest reserves standard in Yorkshire.

Over the years, Headingley AFC has achieved several notable honours and accolades. In the 2003/04 season, the club secured the Yorkshire Old Boys Division One title. In 2006/07, they emerged victorious in the Barkston Ash District FA Cup. In 2009/10, Headingley AFC claimed the West Yorkshire League Alliance Division 2 championship.
