Gippsland Athletic Club, founded in 1955, is a sports club located in Latrobe City, Victoria. The club's main objective is to promote and enhance athletic competition in the Gippsland Region. They provide a relaxed and welcoming environment for individuals and families, encouraging participation from all age groups and skill levels. Athletes at Gippsland Athletic Club compete in age groups ranging from U14 up to Masters.
Regular track and field competitions are held at the Joe Carmody Athletics Track in Newborough from October to March. These competitions take place on Tuesday evenings, starting at 6. 00pm. The club's 2023-24 track season began on Tuesday 3rd of October 2023.
The opening round unfortunately had to be cancelled due to rain, but the following round on Tuesday 10th of October experienced excellent weather and saw the participation of both new and returning athletes. The night witnessed some outstanding performances, including Zaria Dalton's near-record-breaking run in the U14 women's 200m race.
The summer track season continues most Tuesdays from early October to late February, welcoming both first-time athletes for a two-week trial and returning athletes who are encouraged to register with Athletics Victoria. The club also organises events like the annual Vern Curnow Pentathlon, which consists of five events: 200m, Long Jump, Javelin, Discus, and 1500/800m. Participants compete to earn points in each event, and trophies and medals are awarded to winners in each age group.
