The Tableland Athletics Club (TAC) is a sporting club located in Tablelands Regional, Australia. The club offers participation in all aspects of Track & Field to athletes from all over the Tablelands region. TAC holds its club days on Sunday mornings at the Tolga Sports Ground. Members arrive at 8am to set up the equipment and ensure a prompt start to the day's activities.
Additional help from members is always appreciated, and the club's sheds are conveniently located behind the tennis courts.
In addition to providing opportunities for club members, TAC also extends its support to local schools by offering coaching assistance and the use of their grounds and equipment for School Sport Carnivals. The club boasts a dedicated team of qualified and experienced coaches and officials who actively participate in various competitions and club meets throughout the year.
TAC provides regular updates to its members and followers through newsletters and social media platforms, keeping them informed about the latest news and upcoming events. The club also showcases its sponsors on its website, offering them visibility and recognition within the community.
Established in 1983, TAC has a rich history and is now entering its 38th year of operation. Initially focused on providing athletics to children up to U15, the club later expanded to include opportunities for older athletes and parents as well. TAC is now a dual club, affiliated with both the Athletics North Queensland (ANQ) and Little Athletics Queensland (LAQ). This dual affiliation allows the whole family to participate in the sport without the need to travel to different clubs.
In the past, TAC used to alternate its venue between Mareeba and Atherton Secondary Schools. However, the club now has its own home ground at Tolga Reserve, where new clubhouses were completed in 2005 and 2016 respectively. With increasing numbers, TAC is committed to fostering excellent growth and development in athletics within the region.
The club is governed by a dedicated committee, led by President Andrew Ford and Vice President Andrew Millerd. Other committee members, such as Treasurer Chloe Barr, Secretary Penny Goulter, and Coaching Officer Penny Goulter, serve various important roles to ensure the smooth functioning of the club.
To maintain a respectful and safe environment, TAC has established rules that all members and participants must adhere to. These include prohibiting swearing and displays of bad sportsmanship and ensuring that walking tracks and the surrounding rainforest area are off-limits to children due to the presence of potentially dangerous stingers.
The Tableland Athletics Club prides itself on providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for athletes of all ages and abilities. Through its commitment to coaching, support, and community engagement, TAC continues to foster a love for track and field athletics in the Tablelands region.
